The International Breast Cancer and Nutrition (IBCN), an international research organisation for breast cancer in collaboration with Breast Care International and Peace and Love Hospitals has called on Prof. William Otu Ellis, the Vice-Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The Team visited the authorities of KNUST to solicit expertise in diverse fields for research and education on issues relating to breast cancer in Africa.

Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, President of Breast Care International and the Chief Executive Officer of Peace and Love Hospitals who led the IBCN delegation said her association with the IBCN dates back to 2010 when she was invited to speak at an international symposium in the United States and France, and was later approached and informed by the team of their coming and the formal launching of a study in Ghana in addition to ongoing studies in Japan, Lebanon and Uruguay.

The leader of the IBCN, Prof. Sophie A. Lelievre, expressed her delight in the interest shown by the KNUST authorities in the project. She said it is necessary to look at the social sciences, its behaviour, environment and different aspect of the project. She added that the project needs institutions like KNUST to help in these areas.

The Vice Chancellor thanked the IBCN team for educating them on IBCN and stated that it is important to have a MOU and documentation to guide the relationship between both parties. He said the project touched one of his core concerns since he is a Food Scientist and therefore gets worried as he sees the pain and trauma women with the disease go through daily. Prof. Ellis assured IBCN that KNUST has all it takes to support the course and believe that if research is complimentarily carried out, this would lead to a lot of progress.

Dr. Wiafe Addai, thanked the authorities of KNUST for their reception, blessings and assurance to carry out the project.
